Cross Stitch Christmas Decorations

Okay, I know it’s not technically Christmas in July—but I’m cleaning off my camera and just had to share. We were just talking about what you can do with cross stitch, right? Here's a little peek into how I do it at my house for the holidays!

Christmas decorations lined up on top of a shelf. There is an assortment of of cross stitch pieces, gingerbread houses, gingerbread cookies, and and christmas trees. The palette is red, white, green, pink, and brown. Flocked christmas trees are partially visible in the background.

I decorate my dining room for Christmas with a sweets and treats theme. Think peppermint, gingerbread, hot chocolate—you get the idea! It’s cozy, nostalgic, and sweet (literally). Like a lot of stitchers, I pick pieces that fit with the theme and then tuck them in with all the other decorations.

When it comes to colors, I’ve learned that I need things to feel cohesive. I absolutely admire people who can pull off the eclectic look. It can be so charming and fun! But making that kind of mix-and-match look feel intentional takes a special kind of design eye… and I know myself well enough to admit that’s not my gift, LOL. So instead, I've moved toward just stitching with a consistent cross stitch color palette.

By using the same floss colors across multiple projects, I know everything will look good displayed together. I’m 100% not above swapping out called-for colors for my own. Of course, I designed these, so no swapping was involved ;).

^^This^^ is a close-up of the top of my dining room hutch. I tucked my finished pieces—Candy Cane Cottage and Frosted Peppermint Sweet Shop—into my collection of gingerbread houses and peppermint trees. The whole thing makes me smile every time I walk by!

If you haven’t joined the Cherry Hill Stitchers Facebook group, come say hi and show off how you’re displaying your finished projects. I get so much inspiration from seeing what everyone is working on and know our stitchers love to see all the pretties, too!
